Karl Popham leverages over 25 years of electric utility and consulting experience in his role as founder of Mobility+Energy and as the Chair of the Electric Vehicle Leadership Council. He spent 11 of his 17 years with Austin Energy leading the company’s transportation electrification and emerging technologies organization, strategy and award-winning programs. Karl was a Principal investigator on 11 successful innovation initiatives in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy, State of Texas, and the 11th Hour Project. With a focus on transformational innovation, Karl was Austin Energy’s Chief Information Officer and Division Manager of the Program Management Office where he helped orchestrate its Smart Grid roadmap and deployments. Prior to working at the electric utility, Karl was a Managing Director and Principal at Cap Gemini Ernst & Young and a Captain in the US Army Corps of Engineers. Karl co-founded and chairs the Electric Vehicle Leadership Council whose paying member utilities represent some of the largest and most innovative utilities in North America and collectively serve over 67 million people.
